Southern Miss women’s golf team finishes fifth at Magnolia Collegiate

The University of Southern Mississippi women’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Magnolia Collegiate, held at the Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in Mobile, Alabama. The Golden Eagles shot 11-over par in the final round on Tuesday, their best of the two-day event, according to school officials.

Fernanda Gorostiaga posted the low round for Southern Miss, finishing at one-over par. The performance marked a career best for Gorostiaga, who previously placed ninth at the Tchefuncta Invitational two years ago. She recorded two birdies during her round.

Taylor Trible and Louise Cuyvers tied for 14th in the individual standings. Cuyvers shot a two-over 74, while Trible finished with a three-over 75, making four birdies in her final round. Liv Romer finished tied for 27th after shooting a five-over 77. Alma Betoret and Morgan Guepet both posted six-over 78, and Savannah Van Gaalen shot nine-over 81.

Trible recorded eight birdies over the three rounds, the third-most of any player in the field. As a team, Southern Miss had the second-best scoring average on par 4s at 4.26 strokes per hole, trailing only Stetson at 4.20.

The Golden Eagles will compete next at the ULM Invitational on March 30-31 at Bayou DeSiard Country Club, where they are the reigning champions after leading all three rounds last season.

Individual results for Southern Miss included Gorostiaga at T8 with a total score of 226, Trible and Cuyvers tied at T14 with 227, and Romer at T27 with 231. The team leaderboard was topped by South Alabama, followed by West Georgia, Lipscomb, and Stetson.
