HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi women’s golf team is traveling to Aiken, South Carolina, to participate in the three-day More Than Golf Invitational, presented by the ANNIKA Foundation. The event begins Sunday at Old Barnwell Golf Club.
The tournament features 10 mid-major conference champions from last season, including Alabama State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Illinois State, Morehead State, Oakland, Radford, Denver, Richmond, Southern Miss, and Tulsa. Augusta and Columbia are serving as co-hosts. The field will play a par-73, 6,265-yard course designed by Brian Schneider and Blake Conant, on sandy soil amid rolling hills and tall pines.
Southern Miss has competed once this spring, finishing second at the Great River Cup after losing to ULM in the match-play final. Key players include Louise Cuyvers, who averages 72.4 strokes per round and has eight rounds of par or better, and Taylor Trible, who recently secured a first-place finish at The Judson. Liv Romer, a newcomer, also contributed with a 3-0 record at the Great River Cup and a tie for fifth at The Judson.
Additional team members include Savannah Van Gaalen and Fernanda Gorostiaga. Van Gaalen’s best finish this season was seventh at the Lady Clerico, while Gorostiaga opened The Judson with back-to-back 69s. The Golden Eagles are looking to build on their recent performances at the upcoming event.
