Southern Miss Women’s Basketball to Face Old Dominion in Rescheduled Game

NORFOLK, Va. — Southern Miss women’s basketball will face Old Dominion on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Chartway Arena after weather-related scheduling changes. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up due to Winter Storm Gianna, according to the university.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Norfolk Thursday following a close 70-67 loss at Georgia Southern on Wednesday. Georgia Southern hit a late three-pointer to seal the victory, ending Southern Miss’s four-game winning streak in conference play. The team is now 11-10 overall and 4-6 in the Sun Belt.

Senior guard Carly Keats led Southern Miss in the loss with 21 points, including five three-pointers. She has averaged 11.3 points per game this season. Keats is part of a four-player group averaging double figures for the Lady Eagles, along with Jakayla Johnson, Hayleigh Breland and Meloney Thames.

Southern Miss has yet to win on Old Dominion’s home court in program history, falling in all three previous visits. The last meeting on Jan. 6, 2024, resulted in a 68-62 loss, with ODU outscoring the Lady Eagles 34-22 in the first half.

Old Dominion enters Friday’s game with a 13-9 record and a 5-5 mark in conference play. The Lady Monarchs snapped a two-game losing streak with an 85-62 victory over ULM Wednesday. Senior guard En’Dya Buford leads ODU with 12.5 points per game, and Simaru Fields averages 13.1 points per contest.

The game will also serve as a reunion for several players and coaches, including Buford, who will face former coaches Missy Bilderback and Lauren Pittman, and former teammates Keats, Thames and Sakyia White. Several players have connections to Mississippi junior college programs and high schools, adding an extra layer of familiarity to the matchup.
