Southern Miss Women’s Basketball Hosts Marshall at Reed Green Coliseum

The Southern Miss women’s basketball team will play its first home game since Jan. 3 when it hosts Marshall on Thursday evening at Reed Green Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the game will be available on ESPN+ and the Southern Miss Sports Network, including 92.7 WFOR-FM.

The Lady Eagles (11-7, 4-3 Sun Belt) are coming off an 18-day, three-game road trip, during which they finished 1-2 in conference play. Their most recent game was an 81-71 loss at Arkansas State on Jan. 17. Despite four players scoring in double figures, turnovers hampered Southern Miss, which committed 26 errors in the loss.

Whitney Hart led the team with 17 points and 14 rebounds, marking her second career start and her 14th game. The redshirt freshman stepped into the starting lineup in place of Sakyia White. Southern Miss aims to rebound after the setback heading into Thursday’s rivalry matchup.

Marshall (15-5, 6-2 Sun Belt) faced a tough stretch last week, losing games at James Madison and Old Dominion. Despite those setbacks, the Herd remains a strong team with a 15-5 record and a 101 NET ranking. They began Sun Belt play with a 6-0 record and have played six conference games decided by less than 10 points.

Marshall is led by senior guard Tamaya Lewis-Eutsey, who averages 17.1 points, 71 assists, and 71 steals per game. Jakayla Johnson is also a key contributor, with both players averaging over 20 points in league play. The matchup marks the 31st meeting between the two programs, with Southern Miss holding a 17-13 all-time series lead. The teams last met in 2021, ending a stretch of 15 consecutive seasons of play under Conference USA.

Southern Miss holds a 9-4 record at Reed Green Coliseum against Marshall. Last season’s 54-48 win snapped a five-game Marshall winning streak that dated back to 2020. Fans are encouraged to support the Lady Eagles by purchasing season tickets for $75 at SouthernMiss.com/WBBTix.
