Southern Miss Softball’s Hannah Christian Named to Preseason All-Sun Belt Team
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Hannah Christian, a sophomore outfielder for the University of Southern Mississippi softball team, has been named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team, the league office announced Wednesday morning.
Head coach Natalie Poole praised Christian’s performance, saying, “Hannah had a tremendous year as a freshman last year. She played with a lot of maturity and grit. She is the type of player that wants to be counted on in normal and big moments of a game. I believe that coaches in the conference recognize that also in her. I’m proud of her receiving this recognition and I’m looking forward to seeing her on the field this year.”
In her first season with the Golden Eagles, Christian led the team with a .350 batting average, 55 hits and 30 runs scored. The Alabama native set the program’s freshman records for the longest hitting streak at 15 games and most hits at 55. She was named First Team All-Sun Belt for her efforts.
Christian also drew 17 walks, was hit by 12 pitches and posted a .918 on-base percentage. She stole 12 bases in 16 attempts, the second-highest on the team. Defensively, she recorded 68 putouts with a .945 fielding percentage.
The Golden Eagles open their season on Feb. 6 at the Black and Gold Challenge against Southeast Missouri State at 4:30 p.m. Fans can follow the team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates.
