Southern Miss Softball Prepares for Weekend Series at Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss Softball is hitting the road for a three-game series against Louisiana Tech this weekend. The series begins Friday at 6 p.m. at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field in Ruston, Louisiana.

The Golden Eagles, with a 6-6 record, face Louisiana Tech, which holds a 9-2 mark. This marks the second meeting between the teams this season. In their first matchup, Louisiana Tech edged Southern Miss 8-3 after a late rally by the Golden Eagles sent the game into extra innings.

Southern Miss is coming off a midweek loss to McNeese State. The team will aim to improve its performance and secure its first series victory at Louisiana Tech since 2014. The series continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. game and concludes Sunday at noon.

Southern Miss leads the Sun Belt Conference in several defensive categories, including fielding percentage (.981), assists (116), sacrifice flies (8), sacrifice hits (8), walks (52), and triples (7). The team is also second in the conference in stolen bases (20-22) and doubles (22). Nationally, the Golden Eagles are tied for second in triples, with Madison Johnson tied for second individually with three triples.

Players Nealy McManus and Madison Johnson have notable national rankings. McManus is second in assists with 39 and tied for 14th in sacrifice flies with two. Johnson is tied for second nationally with three triples. Louisiana Tech holds a 10-4 record at home against Southern Miss. The last time the Golden Eagles won an away game at Louisiana Tech was in 2016, when they defeated the Bulldogs 6-1. The teams last split a series in Ruston in 2014.
