Southern Miss Softball Hosts Southeastern in Midweek Matchup

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss softball (27-15, Sun Belt 8-4) hosts Southeastern (33-9, Southland 15-0) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Southern Miss Softball Complex, with live streaming available on ESPN+. This marks the second meeting between the two programs this season.

The Golden Eagles have won four straight conference series to start league play, a feat not achieved since 2000, according to school officials. They secured a 2-1 series win over James Madison last weekend. Southern Miss is 15-4 at home, but Southeastern handed the Eagles an 11-3 loss in Hammond, Louisiana, earlier this season after six innings.

The two teams have faced each other 17 times since 2007, with Southern Miss holding a 9-1 record in the series. The Eagles are 4-3 against Southeastern at home and are 4-5 in their last 10 matchups. Southeastern’s recent success includes a 19-game winning streak that started March 5, with a series sweep over McNeese State last weekend. The Lions are currently riding high after their first-ever sweep of McNeese at home in program history.

Southeastern’s Shelby Morris leads the team with a .408 batting average, a .599 slugging percentage, 43 runs, 60 hits, and six triples. Cera Blanchard, the Lions’ top pitcher with an 11-1 record, has a 0.99 ERA and has held opponents to a .184 batting average. Southern Miss features several top national rankings, including Abbi Troquille, second in the nation in hit-by-pitches with 19, and Hannah Christian, eighth in hits with 61. The Eagles are also second nationally in sacrifice flies with 26 and lead the Sun Belt Conference in triples and walks.
