Southern Miss Pitchers Allen, Sivley Named NCBWA Preseason All-Americans
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss senior pitchers Colby Allen and Kros Sivley were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America teams, the organization announced Thursday. Allen received a first-team selection, while Sivley was named to the third team. Both players are relief pitchers for the Golden Eagles.
Allen, from Louisville, Mississippi, was also recognized as a preseason All-America by Perfect Game and preseason All-Sun Belt by league coaches. Last season, he appeared in 29 games, with two starts, finishing with a 7-4 record, 12 saves and a 3.63 ERA. He struck out 77 batters and walked 17 in 67 innings. His 12 saves ranked No. 10 nationally, and his 77 strikeouts ranked No. 22 in the country. Allen’s career saves total stands at 19, tied for fifth in program history, and his seven career saves rank seventh all-time at Southern Miss.
Sivley, from Sumrall, Mississippi, posted a 7-1 record in 22 appearances, including eight starts. He transitioned from starter to reliever during the season, striking out 58 and walking 20 over 71 2/3 innings. Sivley’s first start of the season was a five-inning no decision against Lafayette, and he recorded a career-high nine strikeouts in a start against Louisiana Tech. He also earned a win in a seven-inning start at TCU, allowing one run on five hits. After moving to the bullpen, Sivley secured five wins, including a 4 2/3-inning outing against Troy without allowing a run. He did not walk more than two batters in any outing during the season.
The Golden Eagles open their season Feb. 13 at home against UC Santa Barbara at Pete Taylor Park. The game will start at 4 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+ or heard on a Southern Miss Sports Network affiliate.
