Southern Miss Pitcher Grayden Harris Named Sun Belt Player of the Week
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss sophomore left-hander Grayden Harris has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Harris earned the award after a dominant performance Saturday in a 6-1 victory over North Alabama. He pitched a career-high seven innings, struck out 13 batters, and walked only one. Harris allowed three hits, surrendering just a first-inning single and a second-inning error that was erased on a double play.
He retired 15 batters in a row after the second inning before giving up his only run in the seventh on a walk and two hits. Harris struck out the side twice and recorded at least two strikeouts in five different innings. His season record now stands at 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA. He leads the team in wins and strikeouts, with 30 over 21 innings.
This is Harris’s first weekly honor from the Sun Belt. He joins teammate Joey Urban, who has earned Player of the Week awards twice this season. Southern Miss returns to action Tuesday night at Pete Taylor Park against Ole Miss at 6 p.m., closing a six-game homestand.
