Southern Miss Men’s Tennis to Face Troy in Sun Belt Match

The University of Southern Mississippi men’s tennis team will face Troy on Sunday in a Sun Belt Conference match in Troy, Alabama. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., according to school officials.

Southern Miss enters the contest with a 7-8 overall record and a 1-2 mark in league play. The Trojans are 14-4 overall and undefeated in Sun Belt action at 4-0. Troy has won seven consecutive matches overall and is near the top of the conference standings as April approaches.

The Golden Eagles are returning to Sun Belt play after spending the last two weekends on the road. They opened their recent trip with a 4-2 victory over UIW in San Antonio, but then lost matches to UTSA and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Last Sunday, they played in Mobile, Alabama, and are looking to regain their form against Troy.

Southern Miss had success earlier this month in San Antonio, responding well after dropping the doubles point to beat UIW. The team secured singles wins from Saheb Sodhi, Eric Perkowski, Olle Noltorp and Jay Temming, which helped secure the team victory. The result stands as one of their best road performances this spring and provides momentum heading into another away conference match.

The team traveling roster includes Perkowski, Sodhi, Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Rasmus Becker, Temming, Kale Mize, Jose Murariu, Matei Varbanciu and Julius Bult. Assistant coach Nicolas Simkin and head coach Zubin Engineer will accompany the team. The team will stay at the Hampton Inn Troy during their trip. After the match against Troy, Southern Miss will continue its road stretch next weekend at North Alabama.
