Southern Miss Men’s Tennis Sweeps Alcorn State in Home Finale

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss men’s tennis finished a three-match stretch with a 4-0 home win over Alcorn State on Tuesday, following a weekend of matches in Tallahassee, Florida, according to university athletics.

The Golden Eagles opened the weekend Saturday against Jacksonville State, earning the doubles point to gain an early lead. Jose Murariu secured a critical three-set singles victory, but Jacksonville State responded with wins across the lineup to take the match 4-2.

On Sunday, Southern Miss faced Florida State. The Seminoles claimed the doubles point and added enough singles wins for a 4-0 decision. Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles remained competitive and gained valuable experience against a strong opponent.

Returning home Tuesday, Southern Miss responded with its best overall performance of the weekend, sweeping Alcorn State 4-0. The team dominated in doubles and carried that momentum into singles, finishing the week with a decisive home victory.

The Golden Eagles are set to host New Orleans on Friday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m., followed by Norfolk State on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. in Hattiesburg.
