Southern Miss Men’s Golf to Compete at The Hal Williams Collegiate in Mobile
The University of Southern Mississippi men’s golf team will compete in The Hal Williams Collegiate on Feb. 16-17 at Magnolia Grove Golf Course in Mobile, Alabama. The tournament is hosted by South Alabama and features 14 teams over three days.
Participating teams include No. 13 Illinois, Kent State, Texas State, Rice, Louisiana Tech, Nebraska, UAB, Memphis, Davidson, Abilene Christian, Eastern Michigan, Southern Illinois and Southern Miss. The event will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday, with shotgun starts scheduled for 8 a.m. and noon each day.
Southern Miss is bringing a strong lineup, including freshman Jake Moffitt, a recent Ben Hogan Award recipient, along with juniors Supakorn Amornchaichan, Benjamin Fernandez and Tommy Latter, as well as sophomore Matthew Javier. The team is coming off a historic season start, with back-to-back tournament wins at the JT Poston Invitational and the Badger Invitational, marking the first time since 1979-80 the program has achieved consecutive victories.
The Magnolia Grove Golf Course, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, is known for its marshland, lakes and pine trees. The Crossings Course, one of two 18-hole layouts, previously hosted the Airbus LPGA Classic in 2014. It features Bermuda grass on the fairways and greens.
