Southern Miss Completes Road Swing Before Home Beach Volleyball Tournament
Deland, Fla. — Southern Miss finished its lengthy road schedule with three dual matches at the Stetson Spring Invitational, according to the team’s schedule and results. The Golden Eagles, who are 3-14 overall and 0-0 in Sun Belt play, are set to host their only home tournament of the season starting March 20, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
In their final road outing, Southern Miss lost to Texas A&M–Corpus Christi 4-1. The Islanders improved to 7-8 with the win. The Golden Eagles’ only point came from Jaden White and Kitija Martini Adamsone, who won in straight sets at the third pairing.
Southern Miss then fell in close matches to Florida Gulf Coast and North Alabama. Against Florida Gulf Coast, the Eagles lost 3-2 despite winning the first two matches. FGCU, which received votes in this week’s AVCA Coaches Poll, rallied to win the final three matches, including a decisive third set in the top-flight match.
In the rematch against North Alabama, the match was decided in the fifth pairing. North Alabama won 15-13 in the third set after splitting the first two sets, handing the Golden Eagles a 3-2 loss. The dual featured several tightly contested matches, with Southern Miss earning wins at the second and fourth pairings.
The team will now return home for the Spring Break Slam, scheduled to begin March 20 at the Southern Miss campus. The event includes matches against Spring Hill and ULM, with the full schedule spanning March 20-21, according to the team’s announcement.
