Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Hosts Spring Break Slam at Home
The University of Southern Mississippi is hosting its only home beach volleyball tournament, the Spring Break Slam, on March 20-21 at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Complex in Hattiesburg, Miss., according to school officials.
The Golden Eagles, with a 3-14 record, will face Spring Hill and ULM over the two-day event. Spring Hill holds a 6-3 record, while ULM is 3-8. All matches are free to the public, and fans are advised that campus parking restrictions will be in effect until 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Southern Miss opens the tournament at 1:30 p.m. Friday against Spring Hill. The Golden Eagles have a 11-7 all-time record against the Badgers and have won the last eight meetings. The teams have played each season since Spring Hill started its program in 2019. The final dual against Spring Hill is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Head coach Shawn Taylor, now in his sixth season at Southern Miss, previously led Spring Hill for three seasons. Assistant coach Kassandra Fairly, a former standout at Spring Hill, also played for Taylor during her college career.
The Golden Eagles will also face ULM in two duals. ULM is led by second-year coach Baylee Young, who previously coached at Webber International. Southern Miss leads the all-time series 8-3 since their first meeting in 2020. The teams have split their last four matchups, with ULM winning last year’s Sun Belt Conference Tournament match.
The tournament schedule includes six duals, beginning Friday at 1:30 p.m. and concluding Saturday with the final match at 1:30 p.m., followed by Senior Day ceremonies for three Golden Eagles. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and note parking restrictions in effect for campus events.
