Southern Miss Baseball Set for Weekend Series at Louisiana Tech
The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team, ranked 12th nationally, heads to Ruston for a conference series against Louisiana Tech this weekend. The opening game is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The Golden Eagles, who hold a 7-1 record, have won seven straight games, including a 14-4 victory over Alabama on Tuesday. In that game, Ben Higdon and Kyle Morrison hit grand slams, and the team has hit 11 home runs in eight games. Southern Miss’s team batting average has risen to .287, led by Joey Urban, who is batting .444 and named Sun Belt Player of the Week.
Southern Miss will use the same starting rotation for the third consecutive weekend. Right-hander Colby Allen will start Friday, followed by left-hander Grayden Harris on Saturday and right-hander McCarty English on Sunday. Allen’s record is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA; Harris is 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA; English is 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA.
Louisiana Tech enters the series with an 8-1 record, having won four straight including two victories over Ohio State last weekend. The Bulldogs also defeated Memphis and Northwestern State midweek. The teams have played 67 games since 1922, with Southern Miss leading the series 39-27-1. The last two series between the teams resulted in two of three victories for each side at their respective home ballparks.
The games will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates. The series continues through Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.
