Southern Miss Baseball Opens Sun Belt Play at Arkansas State

The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team will start its fourth season in the Sun Belt Conference this weekend with a three-game series at Arkansas State. The series begins Friday at 6 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

All three games will be available on ESPN+ and can be heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network. The Golden Eagles enter the series with a 15-2 record after winning four consecutive games, including a 2-1 victory Tuesday against Ole Miss. Tucker Stockman delivered the game-winning single in the ninth inning, marking the program’s 36th walk-off win since 2017.

The Red Wolves hold a 13-5 record and arrive in Jonesboro on a two-game winning streak. Their wins this season include victories at Arkansas and at Louisiana Tech. Historically, Southern Miss has dominated the series, winning all 15 meetings since 2005, including a three-game sweep in Jonesboro two seasons ago.

Senior Joey Urban leads the Golden Eagles with a .365 batting average, five home runs, and 17 RBIs. He has reached base in all 17 games this season. Junior shortstop Seth Smith is batting .341, while Kyle Morrison has a team-high six home runs and 20 RBIs. The team will use the same starting rotation for the fifth straight weekend, with senior Colby Allen scheduled to start Friday, Grayden Harris on Saturday, and McCarty English on Sunday.

Southern Miss’s 15-2 start matches the best 17-game beginning in program history, set in 2004. After the series in Arkansas, the team will travel to Biloxi on Tuesday to face Nicholls at 6 p.m. at Keesler Federal Ballpark.
