Southern Miss Baseball Opens Final Month at Home Against ULM
The Southern Miss baseball team begins its final month of the regular season with a home series against ULM at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The series was rescheduled to start Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. due to expected weather, with the finale set for 3 p.m. Sunday. All three games will be available on ESPN+ and via local radio affiliates, according to university officials.
Under head coach Christian Ostrander, the Golden Eagles have a strong record in May, going 18-1 in the regular season during this month and winning their last 11 May games. Overall, they are 26-4 in May under Ostrander, including appearances in the Sun Belt Conference tournament finals and NCAA Regional finals twice. The team enters the series with a 31-14 overall record and a 13-8 mark in conference play, sitting second in the Sun Belt standings behind Coastal Carolina.
ULM stands at 24-21 overall and 10-11 in league play, tied for sixth place with four other teams. The Warhawks aim to climb the standings and qualify for the league tournament for the first time in four seasons. Southern Miss seeks to extend its winning streak and solidify its second-place position in the standings.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 7-6 loss to Tulane on Tuesday, despite homering three times in the game. Morrison leads the team with 13 home runs, followed by Davis Gillespie with 12 and Joey Urban with 11. Morrison also boasts a team-high batting average of .329 and 39 RBIs. The team has hit 62 home runs this season, maintaining a tradition of multiple players with double-digit homers for the 10th straight season not counting 2020.
Southern Miss will start the series with left-hander Grayden Harris (7-1, 3.19 ERA), followed by right-hander Camden Clark (5-0, 3.21 ERA), and right-hander Camden Sunstrom (3-3, 2.41 ERA). After hosting ULM, the team will travel to James Madison for its final road series of the season next weekend.
