Southern Miss Baseball Hosts New Orleans in Midweek Game

The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team will host New Orleans on Tuesday at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+ and available via Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates or SouthernMiss.com.

Southern Miss, ranked No. 10 nationally, enters the game with a 23-9 record. The Privateers hold a 14-20 mark. This will be the only meeting between the two teams this season. It marks the fifth consecutive year they have faced each other, with Southern Miss leading the overall series 64-52 and holding a 33-23 record in Hattiesburg. The teams previously met in the 2008 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, where Southern Miss won twice.

Three Golden Eagles currently have hitting streaks of six games or longer. Joey Urban has a 10-game streak, batting .333 with 14 runs, two doubles, two home runs, and eight RBIs during this span. Kyle Morrison has a seven-game streak and has hit safely in 27 of 32 games this season. Davis Gillespie has hit safely in his last six games, batting .391 with seven runs, two doubles, two home runs, and five RBIs during that stretch.

Freshman pitcher Drake Meeks is expected to start for Southern Miss, making his first collegiate appearance. He has pitched three innings this season, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts. Following Tuesday’s game, the Golden Eagles will travel to Lafayette for a Sun Belt Conference series against Louisiana beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
