Southern Miss Baseball Hosts Alabama in Mid-Week Matchup
The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team will host Alabama on Tuesday at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg. The game is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates, according to university officials.
Southern Miss (6-1) enters the game on a six-game winning streak after sweeping the Round Rock Classic. The team recently defeated Purdue, Oregon State, and Baylor, earning a No. 12 national ranking from D1Baseball.com. Four Golden Eagles players received all-tournament honors, including outfielders Joey Urban and Davis Gillespie, designated hitter Caleb Stelly, and relief pitcher Camden Sunstrom.
Urban leads the team with a .458 batting average, two home runs, and nine RBIs. Gillespie has hit two home runs as well, and Stelly maintains a .280 batting average. Sunstrom pitched four scoreless innings against Oregon State, striking out a career-high eight batters and earning his first save.
Alabama (7-1) has won seven straight games after losing its season opener. The Crimson Tide swept Rhode Island at home last weekend. The teams last met in the 2025 NCAA Hattiesburg Regional, where Southern Miss won 6-5 to eliminate Alabama from postseason play. The Golden Eagles have won five consecutive home games against Alabama, dating back to 2014. This will be their only meeting of the season.
Following Tuesday’s game, Southern Miss will travel to Louisiana Tech for a three-game weekend series starting Friday at 6 p.m., according to the university’s athletic schedule.
