South Alabama men’s tennis team beats Alcorn 7-0

Mobile, Alabama — South Alabama’s men’s tennis team defeated Alcorn State 7-0 Wednesday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. The Jaguars improved to 4-5 with the win, while the Braves fell to 3-12.

South Alabama took the doubles point despite a close win at the top spot. Tomas Grime and Matthew Holl of Alcorn edged Bouyacoub and Hannig 7-6 (8-6) at No. 1 doubles, marking their first victory together this season. The Jaguars responded with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, with Accossatto and Yigin defeating Griffiths and Juarez 6-3, and Caby and van Raemdonck topping Jones and Thomas 6-1.

In singles play, the Jaguars dominated from the top of the lineup down. Braden Hannig defeated Sebastian Griffiths 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, while Juan Accossatto beat Matthew Holl 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. Harold van Raemdonck was particularly dominant at No. 3, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Tomas Grime.

The most competitive singles match came at No. 4, where Jules Caby edged Fabian Juarez 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). Deren Yigin secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jeremiah Jones at No. 5, and Adam Bouyacoub completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Jerry Thomas at No. 6.
