Prairie View Dominates Alcorn in SWAC Men’s Basketball

Prairie View A&M built a commanding lead and never looked back, defeating Alcorn State 72-51 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday inside William J. Nicks Building in Prairie View, Texas.

Joey Madimba scored 28 points for the Panthers, shooting 12-for-20 from the field. Dontae Horne added 16 points, while Lance Williams contributed 11. Prairie View shot 46% from the field and dominated the paint with 46 points compared to Alcorn’s 22.

Alcorn, which fell to 7-21 overall and 6-10 in conference play, remains in the 11th seed for the upcoming SWAC tournament. Grambling State holds the tiebreaker for the 10th seed. The Braves’ struggles continued with a 30.9% shooting percentage and only five assists on 17 made baskets.

Prairie View led from the opening tip, building a lead as large as 25 points in the second half. The Panthers outscored Alcorn in the second half, led by Horne’s 10 points and Elijah Mitchell’s seven off the bench. Prairie View also had a significant advantage in rebounding, with Corey Dunning grabbing a game-high 12 boards.

Alcorn’s Tycen McDaniels and Omari Hamilton each scored seven points in the first half, but the Braves struggled offensively overall. The team shot 29.6% from the field and was limited to just 12-for-14 at the free-throw line, with Hamilton and Lancaster each going 2-for-2.
