Pickens Homers as Ole Miss Softball Falls to No. 2 Texas 3-1
Ole Miss softball suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 2 Texas on Friday at Red & Charline McCombs Field, despite a home run from Mackenzie Pickens, according to the university’s athletic department.
The Longhorns took an early lead, scoring in the first inning thanks to timely hits and aggressive base running. They extended their advantage to 3-0 after the second inning. Ole Miss mounted a rally in the sixth inning, with Pickens hitting a solo home run to left field to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Pitcher Kyra Aycock kept the Rebels in the game, allowing just one hit over the last four innings and striking out four. The Rebels threatened in the sixth, with a single from Persy Llamas and a deep fly that nearly fell for a hit, but Texas’s defense held firm. Ole Miss was unable to generate further offense in the final inning as the Longhorns secured the victory.
Ole Miss, now 19-9 overall and 0-4 in Southeastern Conference play, will face Texas again Saturday at 12 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus. The team encourages fans to join Rebel Rewards, the university’s loyalty program, for exclusive prizes and experiences.
