Pace Blocks Three Shots in Five Minutes as Childress Leads in Assists for Mississippi Valley State
Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeated Mississippi Valley State 78-70 in a SWAC game played at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex in Itta Bena, Mississippi. The Delta Devils set season highs with 22 free throws made and their highest scoring total in a conference game this season, but could not overcome the Golden Lions’ lead.
Mississippi Valley State, now 1-21 overall and 0-8 in conference, was led by Michael James, who scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting. He also contributed four rebounds and two steals. Xzayvion Childress played all 40 minutes, recording six assists, six rebounds, and nine points. Daniel Mayfield added 15 points, seven rebounds, and a block.
Defensively, Jonathan Pace made a notable impact during a five-minute stretch, blocking three shots—nearly matching his career total of five blocks coming into the game. The Delta Devils remain winless in their last series against the Golden Lions, who have won two straight meetings. Their previous victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff was on Feb. 1, 2025, with a 79-76 score.
