Owls softball loses doubleheader at Millsaps
JACKSON, Miss. — William Carey University’s softball team lost both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Millsaps College on Saturday. The Owls fell 6-1 and 5-1, dropping to a 4-4 record for the season, according to team officials.
In the first game, the Owls led 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, but Millsaps scored three runs in that inning and added three more in the sixth to secure the win. William Carey managed only three hits in the game. Brianna Byrd hit her first home run as an Owl, a solo shot in the fifth inning. Addison Owen also had a double, and Kaylee Crawford added a single. Phallyn Clark pitched the complete game, allowing 11 hits and five earned runs, with four strikeouts and no walks.
In the second game, William Carey tied the score at 1-1 in the fifth on an RBI single by Madison York. Millsaps responded with one run in the bottom of the fifth and scored three more in the sixth. Brooklyn Rhodes pitched for the Owls, allowing nine hits and five runs, only one earned. She struck out four and walked three. The teams are scheduled to play a single game Sunday at 12 p.m. to conclude the series, according to the teams’ schedules.
