Owls baseball splits with preseason No. 2 Endicott at LaGrange Classic
LaGrange, Georgia — Mississippi University for Women’s baseball team split a doubleheader with Endicott College at the LaGrange College Classic on Saturday. The Owls (3-3) won the first game 6-4 but fell 10-0 in the second, which ended early due to run rules.
In the opener, MUW scored first on a sacrifice bunt by Zack Egan that brought home Matthew Windham. Endicott responded with three runs in the fourth inning off starter Campbell McCluney. The Owls tied the game in the fifth, with Jay Marbutt scoring on a Gulls error and Zach Johnson driving in Windham. MUW took the lead in the sixth with RBI doubles from Marbutt and Baron Brack. Chase Marshall’s RBI single in the eighth sealed the victory for the Owls.
Will Carter earned the win in relief, pitching 3.2 innings of three-hit, one-run ball. Both McCluney and Carter recorded four strikeouts. Connor Reilley got the final out for his first save of the season.
The second game was highlighted by Endicott senior Brady Stuart’s no-hit performance, which lasted for three innings. The Owls managed only two baserunners, both on walks. Robby Canten took the loss for MUW after three innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts.
With Saturday’s games canceled due to expected foul weather, MUW is scheduled to face LaGrange on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
