Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader in Virginia

NORFOLK, Va. — The University of Mississippi women’s tennis team won both matches Saturday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, improving to 3-1 overall. The Rebels defeated Old Dominion 5-2 before sweeping Hampton in straight sets.

In the morning match against Old Dominion, Ole Miss claimed the doubles point with victories from No. 66 Andrea Nova and Emily Welker, and Riley Crowder and Alice Soulié. Their doubles matches with Uladzislava and Marina Markina, and Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova, were unfinished. The Rebels then won five singles matches, including quick wins from Welker and Crowder, and a three-set victory from Soulié. The Monarchs won the last two singles matches to close the score.

Later, against Hampton, Ole Miss secured the doubles point with wins from Soulié and Crowder, and Ichino Horikawa and Owen Wilkinson. The Rebels swept singles, with Emily Welker and Andrea Nova earning dominant victories. Riley Crowder clinched the match with her win over Chelsea Chakanyuka. Three singles matches remained unfinished at the end of the day.

The team is scheduled to return home next weekend for their season opener at Oxford, facing Memphis on Friday at 5 p.m. CT, according to the university’s athletic department.
