Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Season in North Carolina

Ole Miss women’s tennis is kicking off its spring season with an away match against Campbell University in Cary, North Carolina, on Friday. The team will then participate in the ITA Kickoff weekend in Raleigh, N.C., hosted by North Carolina State University.

The Rebels will face Campbell at the Cary Tennis Center at noon on Jan. 23. Following that, they will compete in the four-team tournament at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, where they are scheduled to play Florida on Jan. 25 and either North Carolina State or Boise State on Jan. 26. The winner of this event will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.

Ole Miss last qualified for the indoor championship in 2018. The team’s fall season saw Emily Welker advance to the NCAA singles Final Four and earn All-American honors with doubles partner Andrea Nova, reaching the NCAA doubles Sweet 16. Welker is ranked No. 6 in the ITA singles poll heading into the spring.

First-year head coach Grant Roberts leads the Rebels into their 50th season. Returning players include seniors Emma Kette, Andrea Nova, and Emily Welker, along with sophomore Alice Soulié. The team also added three freshmen, including top recruit Riley Crowder from Alabama and Owen Wilkinson from Mississippi, who won two state singles titles.

Campbell has already played two matches, losing both to North Carolina and NC State. Florida, ranked No. 23, opened its season with a win over Charleston Southern. North Carolina State, ranked No. 16, started its season with four straight wins.

Ole Miss will look to build on its recent success and compete for a spot in the national indoor tournament. Fans can follow the team on social media at @OleMissWTennis for updates throughout the season.
