Ole Miss Track & Field Sets Two School Records at Stanford Invite
POLO ALTO, Calif. — Ole Miss track and field athletes made a strong showing Saturday, breaking two school records and earning several personal bests at the Stanford Invitational, according to the university.
Senior Kidus Misgina improved his own school record in the 10,000-meter run, finishing 22nd in a career-best 28:17.69. His previous record was 28:20.19, set last year at the same event, a university spokesperson said.
Senior Aiden Britt nearly matched his personal best in the same race, finishing 26th with a time of 28:28.35. In the women’s 5K, senior Beth Arentz clocked a time of 15:51.89 to win her section and break Kristel van den Berg’s record of 15:54.27, set in 2023. Fellow senior Sophie Baumann posted a 15:54.69, just 13 seconds shy of the record, which now ranks her fourth all-time at Ole Miss.
In the men’s 5K, Evan Thornton-Sherman ran a personal best of 13:32.99, ranking fourth all-time at Ole Miss, while Marco Perez finished in 13:55.87, placing him 15th in school history. Sergio Del Barrio clocked 8:38.05 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, also ranking third all-time at Ole Miss.
Meanwhile, at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou, sophomore Lily Beattie cleared a PR height of 4.30 meters (14 feet, 1.¼ inches) in the women’s pole vault, making her the fourth Ole Miss athlete to vault 14 feet outdoors and ranking her third all-time at the school. Other athletes posted PRs or season bests, including Aly Francolini and Mary Cate Doughty, who tied for 10th at 4.00 meters (13 feet, 1¾ inches).
In field events, junior Akaoma Odeluga led the women’s hammer throw with a top distance of 62.72 meters (205 feet, 9 inches), finishing fifth and ranking seventh in school history. Nyah Edwards added a PR of 62.16 meters (203-11), placing sixth. On the men’s side, Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan remained undefeated in the hammer this season, winning with a toss of 72.17 meters (236-9).
Competition resumes Sunday at LSU with the women’s discus and men’s shot put events, with Ole Miss athletes scheduled to compete throughout the day.
