Ole Miss Track & Field Sends Split Squad to Vanderbilt and Arkansas Meets
Ole Miss track and field will send a split squad to two different meets this weekend, with athletes competing at Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge and the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas, both scheduled for Feb. 13-14. The meets will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
At the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., the Rebel men’s team continues to hold a top-10 national ranking, coming in at No. 10 in the Week Three USTFCCCA indoor rating index, according to Ole Miss coaches. The team has accumulated 87 NCAA all-time top-25 rankings, with 16 NCAA titles and 188 NCAA points under head coach Connie Price-Smith, who has led the Rebels to numerous team and individual accolades.
Ole Miss athletes are performing well early this season, with senior Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan ranking among the top throwers nationally. Robinson-O’Hagan recently set a career-best shot put mark of 21.18 meters (69-6) at Clemson’s Bob Pollock Invitational, a performance that ranks fourth in the nation and sixth in the world this season. He has been named to The Bowerman watch list for the 10th time in his career, and he is considered a strong contender for collegiate track’s top award.
Robinson-O’Hagan leads a talented group of throwers, including seniors Bryson Smith and Mason Hickel, who rank 13th and 28th nationally, respectively. Freshman Ashton Hearn has already made a mark with a top-50 NCAA mark in the shot put. On the women’s side, junior Odeluga Akaoma continues to impress, winning her debut at Kentucky with a weight throw of 22.95 meters (75-3.50), second in the SEC and fourth nationally.
Meanwhile, in Arkansas, the men’s high jump champion Arvesta Troupe has opened strong with a clearance of 2.23 meters (7-3.75). Freshmen Sterling Scott and Kyle Johnson are making an immediate impact in the triple jump, ranking among the top performers in the SEC. Sophomore Jordan Urrutia has set school records in the 200 meters and contributed to record-breaking relay performances, standing out as one of the top sprinters in the nation this season.
