Ole Miss Track & Field Heads West for New Mexico Classic
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of Mississippi’s track and field teams are competing in Albuquerque this week at the New Mexico Classic, scheduled for Feb. 6-7. The meet will be streamed live on FloTrack, with live results available.
Ole Miss’s men’s team is ranked No. 9 and the women’s team is No. 24 in the Week Two USTFCCCA indoor ratings. Head coach Connie Price-Smith has led the Rebels to 86 top-25 national team finishes across track and cross country since her 11th season. The program boasts 16 NCAA individual titles and 188 All-Americans.
Several Rebels are competing at a high level this season. Senior Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan leads nationally with three NCAA titles and owns four top-50 marks nationally, although he will sit out this weekend. Defending NCAA outdoor high jump champion Arvesta Troupe opened his final year with a clearance of 2.23 meters (7-3.75), ranking second in the SEC.
In the men’s triple jump, juniors Sterling Scott and Kyle Johnson have made an immediate impact. Scott’s season-best 16.14 meters (52-11.5) ranks fourth in school history, while Johnson’s debut jump of 15.67 meters (51-5) ranks seventh in the conference. Freshman Jordan Urrutia has set two Ole Miss records this season, including an indoor 200-meter time of 20.89 seconds, ranking eighth in the SEC.
Urrutia also contributed to Ole Miss’ fastest indoor 4×400-meter relay since 2004, with the team clocking 3:08.61 at Clemson. The Rebels are also represented by other top athletes, including pole vaulter Logan Kelley, who cleared 5.46 meters (17-11) last week, and Aiden Britt, who ran a 3,000-meter personal best of 7:51.11.
Other notable competitors include Max Armstrong in the 800 meters, Kidus Misgina in the 5K, and Lily Beattie and Lizzie Hatton in pole vault and long jump, respectively. The meet features a comprehensive schedule across two days, with athletes competing in multiple events, including heptathlon, pentathlon, and sprints.
