Ole Miss Track & Field Completes Weekend with Strong Performances at Tyson Invite and Music City Challenge

The University of Mississippi track and field team concluded a busy weekend of competition with notable results at the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas and the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., according to school officials.

At Arkansas, the Rebels made history in the men’s 4×400-meter relay, finishing second on Ole Miss’s all-time indoor list with a season-best time of 3:07.65. The relay team included Joshua Knox, Jordan Urrutia, Carson Turner, and Wesley Todd. The performance was just over a second shy of the school record set in 2004.

Senior Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan continued his strong season, winning the shot put at 21.12 meters (69-03.50). Robinson-O’Hagan has now surpassed 21 meters in back-to-back meets, including a career-best of 21.18 meters earlier this month. Freshman Ashton Hearn also made waves, becoming only the fourth Ole Miss indoor athlete to surpass 60 feet in the shot put, with a mark of 18.37 meters (60-03.25).

In the women’s shot put, junior Akaoma Odeluga claimed victory at 17.46 meters (57-03.50), while sophomore Lily Beattie tied her indoor career best in the pole vault at 4.15 meters (13-07.25). Senior Arvesta Troupe added a fifth-place finish in the men’s high jump, clearing 2.19 meters (7-02.25).

Meanwhile, in Nashville, Ole Miss athletes achieved personal bests and set school records in middle-distance events. Senior Chase Rose led the men’s 800 meters with a career-best 1:47.53, ranking sixth all-time at Ole Miss indoors. Sophomore Max Armstrong and junior Evan Thornton-Sherman also posted personal bests in the event.

The women’s distance medley relay team finished second overall at the Music City Challenge, passing the baton in 11:25.48, the tenth-fastest time in school history. The Rebels are scheduled to compete in the upcoming SEC Indoor Championships at Texas A&M from Feb. 26-28.

Ole Miss will send distance medley relays to Notre Dame for the Alex Wilson Invite next Saturday and prepare for the SEC meet and NCAA championships later this month, according to the school.
