Ole Miss Softball Sweeps Rain-Delayed Day at Green & Gold Classic with Back-to-Back Shutouts

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The No. 25 Ole Miss softball team won two games in a rain-delayed day at the Green & Gold Classic, delivering back-to-back shutouts against Southern Illinois and Missouri State. The Rebels improved to 10-4 overall, with a 0-0 mark in Southeastern Conference play, according to team reports.

In the first game, Ole Miss edged Southern Illinois 1-0 in nine innings. The game was postponed four hours due to weather and field conditions. Lilly Whitten pitched three hitless innings before being replaced by Emilee Boyer, who pitched six innings of one-hit softball. Boyer faced a bases-loaded situation in the fourth inning and responded with a foul out and double play to keep the game scoreless. Mackenzie Pickens ended the game with a walk-off home run in the ninth inning, securing the victory, according to the team.

The second game saw Ole Miss defeat Missouri State 2-0. Taylor Malvin led off with a single, and Persy Llamas was hit by a pitch, leading to a double steal. Madi George then singled, driving in the first run. Kyra Aycock pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits. The Rebels added an insurance run in the sixth inning on a single by Izzy Rettiger, which scored from second base. Aycock’s performance marked her first complete game shutout as a Rebel, team officials said.
