Ole Miss Softball Splits Doubleheader with McNeese at Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational

The University of Mississippi softball team, ranked No. 21, split a doubleheader against McNeese on the first day of the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational in Lafayette, Louisiana.

In the opener, the Rebels fell behind early, trailing 10-1 before mounting a comeback. They ultimately lost 12-11 despite a late rally. Persy Llamas hit two home runs and drove in three runs, while Madi George homered twice. Freshman pitcher Payton Kennedy made her collegiate debut, throwing 4.2 innings of relief and allowing just two runs, according to the team.

In the second game, Ole Miss jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead and increased it to 4-0 by the second inning. Lilly Whitten pitched four solid innings, limiting McNeese to four hits. Kyra Aycock finished with three hitless innings, earning a save as the Rebels secured an 8-3 victory.

The Rebels (4-3) will continue play in the tournament on Friday, facing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 11 a.m. CT and Louisiana at 1:30 p.m. CT. The team is looking to build on its early-season momentum.
