Ole Miss Softball Opens With 8-0 Win Over Jacksonville State
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss softball team jumped out to an early lead and secured an 8-0 win over Jacksonville State in five innings Friday at the Ole Miss Classic, according to the university’s athletic department.
The Rebels (13-5) scored six runs in the first inning, highlighted by a home run from Persy Llamas. Kyra Aycock earned her seventh win of the season, pitching four shutout innings with two strikeouts.
Ole Miss’s offense got started quickly. Taylor Malvin singled to lead off, and Llamas followed with a two-run homer. The Rebels added to their lead with hits from Madi George, Cassie Reasner, and Kennedy Bunker, who drove in two runs. Grace Thompson also contributed an RBI single, extending the lead to 4-0 before the game was halted early due to the run rule.
Aycock kept Jacksonville State at bay throughout her outing, stranding runners in scoring position in the second, third, and fourth innings. Lilly Whitten closed the game with a clean fifth inning, sealing the victory for Ole Miss.
The Rebels will face Jacksonville State again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT, followed by a game against ULM at 5 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on SEC Network Plus, according to Ole Miss athletics.
