Ole Miss softball falls to No. 2 Texas in series finale

The Ole Miss softball team was defeated by No. 2 Texas 15-3 in five innings Sunday at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin.

The Rebels (19-11, 0-6 SEC) scored twice in the first inning. Persy Llamas doubled, and after a walk and an infield single loaded the bases, Kennedy Bunker singled to give Ole Miss an early 1-0 lead. Taylor Roman followed with a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.

Texas responded with a run in the first inning, aided by an error. The Longhorns took control in the second inning, scoring six runs to go ahead 7-2. They added eight more in the third inning to extend their lead. The Rebels loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth, with singles from Emilee Boyer, Laylonna Applin, and Mackenzie Pickens. Llamas then drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, making it 15-3, but Ole Miss could not score further, and the game ended early.

Ole Miss will return home Wednesday to face Louisiana Tech at 5 p.m. CT, a game scheduled to be televised on the SEC Network. The team continues its schedule with upcoming games against Oklahoma, UAB, and Tennessee.

Texas’s Teagan Kavan earned the win, improving her record to 11-0. Ole Miss’s Kyra Aycock took the loss, falling to 8-4. The Rebels’s offense was led by Llamas with one RBI and a double, while the Longhorns’ Kayden Henry posted three RBIs and two doubles. The series marked Ole Miss’s continued struggles in SEC play.
