Ole Miss Softball Edges North Alabama in Extra Innings

FLORENCE, Ala. — Ole Miss softball rallied from a two-run deficit to defeat North Alabama 4-2 in eight innings Tuesday night, according to the university’s athletic department.

The Rebels (19-8) fell behind early, with North Alabama scoring two runs in the second inning behind two Rebel errors and three hits. Ole Miss was held hitless through the first four innings before Kennedy Bunker hit a solo home run in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Lions maintained their lead into the seventh inning. With two outs and the game on the line, Madi George hit an opposite-field home run to left, tying the game at 2-2 and sending it to extra innings. Emilee Boyer stranded a runner at second in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game tied.

In the eighth, Rachel Connors pinch-hit and doubled to left. Ryan Starr pinch-ran and stole third, then the Rebels loaded the bases with walks from Taylor Malvin and Mackenzie Pickens. George delivered a double down the right field line, scoring two runs and putting Ole Miss ahead for good.

Boyer closed the game in the bottom of the eighth, striking out the first batter before retiring the next two in quick succession to secure the win. The Rebels are scheduled to face No. 2 Texas in a three-game series starting Friday.

Ole Miss coach Jamie Trachsel praised her team’s resilience, noting the offensive surge in the late innings. The team will continue its road trip with games against Texas Tech and Oklahoma later this week.
