Ole Miss Softball Edged by No. 13 Texas A&M 10-9 in 10 Innings
Ole Miss softball lost a 10-9 thriller to No. 13 Texas A&M in 10 innings Sunday at Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The Rebels, with a 26-18 record and 2-13 in Southeastern Conference play, scored eight runs over the final three innings but could not catch the Aggies, who improved to 30-12 and 11-4 in conference play.
The game was tightly contested, with 19 runs and 25 hits combined. It started slow, with both teams scoreless through the first few innings. Texas A&M broke the ice with an RBI single, but Rachel Connors responded with a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.
The Aggies took control in the third inning, with KK Dement hitting a grand slam to give Texas A&M a 5-1 lead. Dement added a two-run homer in the fifth, extending the lead to 7-1. Despite the deficit, Ole Miss fought back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by RBI singles from Taylor Malvin and Mackenzie Pickens, and a two-run home run by Persy Llamas to make it 7-6.
Texas A&M answered with a three-run homer in the sixth to make it 10-6. The Rebels refused to quit, loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning. Kennedy Bunker drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Applin scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 10-8. In the final inning, Madi George and Tenly Grisham delivered RBI singles to bring Ole Miss within one, but the Aggies escaped with the win after back-to-back strikeouts.
