Ole Miss softball dominates UAB with 11-0 win in five innings
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss softball defeated UAB 11-0 in five innings Wednesday at Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The Rebels improved to 21-14 overall, while the Blazers fell to 12-21.
Ole Miss scored five runs in the second inning and maintained the lead throughout. The offense was led by a two-run homer from Laylonna Applin and a three-run blast from Rachel Connors, her first collegiate home run. The Rebels’ offense also featured multiple RBI singles and stolen bases, putting constant pressure on UAB’s defense.
The Rebels’ pitching staff, led by Emilee Boyer, held UAB to just one hit. Boyer and Lilly Whitten combined for five strikeouts, securing the shutout. UAB’s only hit came in the second inning, but Ole Miss quickly responded with a flurry of runs. Cassie Reasner led off with a walk, and Applin’s home run followed. Ryan Starr stole a base and scored on an RBI single by Taylor Malvin, stretching the lead to 3-0.
Ole Miss continued its offensive surge in the third and fourth innings. Reasner doubled to start the third, and after a wild pitch and walks, Boyer drove in a run with an RBI single. In the fourth, Reasner added another RBI single, and Connors capped the game with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. The game ended early due to the run rule.
The Rebels are set to travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for three SEC games against No. 4 Tennessee this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. CT, with coverage on the SEC Network. Ole Miss continues to seek its first SEC win of the season after a 0-9 conference start.
