Ole Miss Men’s Tennis to Face Samford in Season Opener
Ole Miss men’s tennis will play its first away match of the season Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama. The Rebels face Samford at 1 p.m. at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion.
Ole Miss enters the match with a 5-0 record after a win against Tulane. Samford, with a 1-1 record, lost to Charlotte but defeated Alabama State. The Bulldogs hope to leverage their home court to challenge the Rebels in this non-conference contest, according to team sources.
The Rebels feature a roster highlighted by Matthieu Chambonniere, a sophomore from Paris, France. He finished the 2024 season with a 23-7 singles record and was ranked as high as No. 67 in the ITA doubles rankings. Freshman Stefano D’Agostino from Italy is ranked as high as No. 2 in the ITF singles rankings, and Vlado Jankanj from Serbia has an ATP career-high singles ranking of No. 1074.
Other key players include senior Noah Schlagenhauf, with a 17-19 singles record, and senior Isac Strömberg, who recorded 12 singles wins last season. The team also features a mix of international talent and experienced players aiming to extend their winning streaks.
Samford, under third-year coach Oliver Reynolds, opened its season with a 1-6 loss to Charlotte. Junior Sebastian Harrison led the Bulldogs with wins at doubles and singles. The Bulldogs hope to capitalize on home court advantage to upset the Rebels in this non-conference match.
