Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Stuns No. 11 Vanderbilt in Comeback Win
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss men’s tennis team pulled off a dramatic 4-3 upset against No. 11 Vanderbilt on Sunday at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.
The Rebels fell behind early after dropping the doubles point, but they responded strongly in singles play. Vanderbilt took an early 3-0 lead after winning the first two singles courts.
Ole Miss stormed back, winning four consecutive singles matches to secure the victory. Matthieu Chambonniere started the run with a straight-sets win over No. 90 Hoyoung Roh. Freshman Pietro Pampanin then defeated Danil Panarin in three sets, and Stefano D’Agostino forced a decisive third set with a win over No. 115 Pablo Martinez Gomez.
The match came down to court five, where Noah Schlagenhauf battled Jack Satterfield. After dropping the second set 4-6, Schlagenhauf rallied in the third to win 6-1, clinching the Rebels’ comeback victory. Ole Miss improved to 14-3 overall and 2-3 in SEC play with the win.
Vanderbilt, now 12-4 and 4-2 in conference, started strong but couldn’t hold off the Rebels’ rally. Ole Miss will next face No. 24 Florida in Gainesville on March 13.
