Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 18 Oklahoma in Norman
The Ole Miss men’s tennis team was edged by Oklahoma, 4-3, in a tight contest Monday at Headington Family Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The Rebels, ranked 32nd nationally, dropped the doubles point early, giving the Sooners a 1-0 lead heading into singles play, according to the school’s athletics department.
Oklahoma extended its lead to 2-0 after winning the first two singles matches. Ole Miss responded with victories from Pietro Pampanin and Stefano D’Agostino, tying the match at 2-2. The Sooners then secured the next singles point, making it 3-2.
In the final singles match, Vlado Jankanj was 8-0 in dual singles play but lost in three sets to Orel Kimhi, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Kimhi’s win clinched the match for Oklahoma. Noah Schlagenhauf won his match for Ole Miss, 7-6 (7-2), 6-5, but it was not enough to secure the team victory.
Ole Miss (12-2, 0-2 SEC) will host Arkansas on Friday at 3 p.m. at Palmer Salloum Tennis Center, the school said.
In doubles, Oklahoma’s Luis Alvarez and Bruno Nhavene defeated Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn, 6-4. The Rebels’ doubles team of Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin beat Asahi Harazaki and Oscar Lacides, 6-3.
Singles results included D’Agostino’s victory over Lacides and Pampanin’s win over Johan Rodriguez. Oklahoma’s Luis Alvarez and Asahi Harazaki also secured singles wins for the Sooners.
