Ole Miss Men’s Tennis earns 4-1 victory at Dayton for best start since 2021-22
Dayton, Ohio — The University of Mississippi men’s tennis team defeated Dayton 4-1 on Sunday night at the South Regency Tennis Center, improving to 7-0 for the season. The Rebels’ start is their best in three seasons, according to team officials.
Dayton, which now stands at 1-3, challenged Ole Miss throughout the match. With the team leading 3-1, freshman Vlado Jankanj faced Dayton’s Sturle Skigelstrand in singles. Jankanj won the second-set tiebreaker after splitting the first set, clinching the match for the Rebels and extending their unbeaten streak.
The Rebels secured the initial point in doubles. Despite Dayton winning one doubles match, Ole Miss’s duo of Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin defeated Rishi Dore and Eric Suk, 6-3. Freshmen Stefano D’Agostino and Pietro Pampanin followed with a 6-4 victory over Mikkel Zinder and Dylan Jaen, clinching the doubles point for Ole Miss.
In singles play, Benjamin Martin defeated Kaia Mendible 6-2, 6-2, to give Ole Miss a 2-1 lead. Pampanin then defeated Jaen 7-5, 7-5, setting up the match-clinching win by Jankanj. Ole Miss will next travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face North Dakota on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center, with start time to be announced.
The match results included doubles victories by Chambonniere and Martin, and singles wins by Martin, Pampanin, and Jankanj. The Rebels’ next scheduled match is against North Dakota in Nebraska.
