Ole Miss Baseball Secures Series with Run-Rule Win Over LSU

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss scored 12 runs in a three-inning stretch from the fourth through the sixth inning to beat LSU 12-2 on Saturday at Swayze Field. The Rebels improved to 25-11 overall and 7-7 in SEC play. LSU dropped to 22-14, 6-8 in conference.

The Rebels’ victory marked their first series win over LSU since the 2022 national championship season and their first back-to-back series wins over ranked opponents since 2019, according to Ole Miss athletics.

Ole Miss was held scoreless through the first three innings. The offense sparked in the fourth after Tiger starter William Schmidt was pulled with two outs. Judd Utermark drew a walk and advanced on wild pitches. Hayden Federico’s flyout brought Utermark home, cutting LSU’s lead to 2-1. Cannon Goldin grounded out, moving Will Furniss to second. Brayden Randle singled, and Austin Fawley homered over the left-center wall, giving Ole Miss a 4-2 lead.

The Rebels continued their rally in the sixth, with Owen Paino doubling twice and driving in three runs. Ole Miss scored seven more runs in that inning, including Paino’s second double, a three-RBI shot that extended the lead to 10.

Pitching was highlighted by Cade Townsend, who pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. LSU used seven pitchers in the game. William Schmidt (4-3) took the loss, while Townsend earned his third win of the season.
