Ole Miss Baseball Beats Memphis 7-1 Behind Utermark’s Power Surge
OXFORD, Miss. — Judd Utermark hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead Ole Miss to a 7-1 victory over Memphis on Tuesday night at Swayze Field.
The Tigers scored first with a run in the top of the first inning, but Ole Miss responded in the bottom half with Utermark’s first homer of the night, giving the Rebels a 2-1 lead. Ole Miss added two more runs in the second inning on a bases-loaded walk and a hit by pitch.
Topher Jones hit his first home run as a Rebel in the third inning, extending the lead to 5-1. Starting pitcher Owen Kelly threw four innings, allowing one run and striking out five. Grayson Gibson pitched four scoreless innings, striking out five and earning his first career win.
Utermark’s second homer came in the seventh inning, making it 7-1. Landon Waters finished the game with a scoreless ninth to seal the win for Ole Miss (11-2). Memphis’s Isaac Lucas took the loss for the Tigers.
The Rebels will face North Alabama at Swayze Field tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT. Ole Miss continues to build momentum in their season with strong performances from Utermark and Gibson, among others.
