Northwest Mississippi Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Snead State Invitational, Little Places Second
Mobile, Alabama — The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s golf team tied its best finish of the season, placing fifth at the Snead State Women’s Springs Invitational, which featured at least 12 teams, according to school officials.
The Rangers displayed consistency throughout the two-day event, shooting a 360 on the first day and a 358 on the second. They finished 11 strokes ahead of the host team and were the top Mississippi team in the tournament. Four teams ahead of Northwest are ranked in the top five nationally in NJCAA Division II women’s golf, including Shelton State Community College, Florida Gateway Community College, Wallace State Hanceville, and Jefferson State Community College.
Individually, Analeigh Little led Northwest with a strong two days. The freshman opened with a 77, including two birdies and a 1-over front nine. She followed with a 79 on the second day, finishing at 12-over par and in second place overall. Little, ranked eighth nationally, finished ahead of six players ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Bella McNeil, another standout for the team, improved significantly from the first to the second day. She scored an 89 on day one and an 81 on day two, moving up seven spots to finish tied for 11th place. The freshman is ranked 28th nationally going into the spring season.
The rest of the team experienced mixed results. Addison Forbes shot her best round of the year with a 93 on the first day but struggled on the back nine in the second round, finishing tied for 45th. Madison Baker shot a 102 on day one but improved by seven strokes on day two, despite scoring only two pars in that round. Zae’Ja Davis played consistently, finishing tied for 50th, while Sarah Niblett, competing as an independent, ended in 55th place.
According to the most recent polls as of Feb. 25, Northwest ranks 10th nationally and is the highest-ranked team from the MACCC, ahead of Northeast Mississippi Community College, ranked 20th. Little is also ranked eighth individually, and McNeil is 28th. Only one other Mississippian player is in the top 30 nationally.
The Rangers are scheduled to compete next on March 9 at the Jefferson State Women’s College Invitational in Pensacola, Florida, at Marcus Point Country Club. Fans can follow updates at nwccrangers.com or on the college’s social media accounts.
