Northwest Mississippi tennis teams earn fifth straight conference win over Itawamba

The Northwest Mississippi Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams claimed their fifth consecutive conference wins with victories over Itawamba Community College at Johnson-Parlow Tennis Courts.

The women’s team dominated, winning 8-1 while dropping only one court. They swept the doubles matches and took five of six singles in straight sets. No player lost more than three games in singles play, according to school officials.

The men’s team also secured a 6-3 victory, though the match was more competitive. After sweeping the doubles, Northwest clinched the win with three singles victories. Sophomores Holden Cooke and Jordan Mitchell combined to drop just three games across their matches. A highlight was Brady Holliman’s ten-point match tiebreaker win after losing the first set, officials said.

Northwest is set to travel to Perkinston to face ranked conference foe Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday, March 24, at the MGCCC Tennis Complex, according to the school.

Details of the matches include the doubles victories of Claudia Lopez Chaparro and Laura Cámara Blanco in women’s doubles, and Carlos Diaz and Luca Morris in men’s doubles. The singles winners for the women were Claudia Lopez Chaparro, Laura Cámara Blanco, Meg Daves, and others. For the men, winners included Holden Cooke, Jordan Mitchell, and Brady Holliman, among others.
