Northwest Baseball Sweeps East Mississippi to Improve to 6-2 in Conference Play
Senatobia, Miss. — Northwest Mississippi Community College’s baseball team earned a pair of victories over East Mississippi Community College on Wednesday, improving to 6-2 in conference play and tying for second place in the MACCC standings with Jones College.
The Rangers won game one 16-6 via the run rule, then rallied from a 4-3 deficit to take game two 6-4. The wins marked their longest winning streak of the season, extending to four games.
In the first game, East Mississippi took an early lead with single runs in the first and second innings. Derrin Randle started for Northwest and was replaced after three innings. The Rangers responded with a five-run second inning, sparking six consecutive scoring frames. They added four runs in the third, three in the fourth, and four more across the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, ending the game with a walk-off wild pitch.
Northwest’s offensive standout was South McCoy, who went 2-4 with a home run, triple, and three RBIs. John Whit Snopek went 3-4 with three RBIs, and Lake Reed went 3-3 with three runs scored. Tyler Sullivan earned his second win of the season in relief, pitching four innings and allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out four.
In the second game, East Mississippi scored four runs in the second inning, but Northwest responded with two runs in the third, a home run by McCoy in the fourth, and a two-run shot by Mason McMillin in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Reed added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single. Caleb Doty pitched five innings to earn the win, and McCoy closed out the game with a scoreless seventh for his fourth save of the season.
The Rangers will host No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College this weekend at Jim Miles Field. The doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday at 2 and 5 p.m., with free admission.
