No. 7 Jones College remains undefeated with 6-3 victory over No. 13 Coastal Alabama-South
ELLISVILLE — No. 7 Jones College improved to 12-0 with a 6-3 win over No. 13 Coastal Alabama-South at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Monday.
The Bobcats will conclude regular-season play with a 2 p.m. match Tuesday against No. 24 Itawamba. They are also scheduled for a 1 p.m. match Saturday in Meridian against No. 12 Wallace State-Hanceville.
The Coyotes dropped to 16-8 with the loss. Jones secured two of the three doubles matches. Heidi Clayton of New Albany and Theresa Emelio of Australia defeated Jescimel Mabiongo and Neda Kocyte, 8-3, in No. 1 doubles. Maria Martinez and Camila Piquín, both from Argentina, beat Hannah Stenger and Nadja Walter, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles. Katlin Porcello of Oak Grove and Josie Tullos of Newton County lost a close match to Amber Langendries and Samantha Parris, 8-9 (5-7), in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Piquín edged Walter, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, in No. 1. Clayton defeated Mabiongo, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 2. Martinez topped Teah Johnson, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 3. Emelio defeated Langendries, 7-5, 6-0, in No. 4. Porcello lost to Stenger, 6-2, 4-6, 7-10, in No. 5. Tullos was defeated by Kocyte, 6-7, 4-6, in No. 6.
Additional matches included Caroline Kilpatrick of Brookhaven defeating Parris, 8-5, and Emily Rogers of West Jones losing to Stephania Chacon, 1-8.
