No. 6 Mississippi State beats No. 18 Ole Miss to take series at Swayze Field
OXFORD, Miss. — No. 6 Mississippi State defeated No. 18 Ole Miss 6-1 Saturday at Swayze Field, securing the series and extending their winning streak over the Rebels to nine of the last 10 meetings, according to school sources.
Starting pitcher Tomas Valincius earned his sixth win of the season, allowing three hits and striking out nine over five shutout innings. The Bulldogs’ offense provided early support with Kevin Milewski homering in the third inning and adding a solo shot in the sixth. Jacob Parker and Gehrig Frei also homered, helping to build a commanding lead.
MSU scored three runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on Ole Miss errors and timely hitting. The Rebels managed their only run in the sixth on an RBI single from Dom Decker but could not mount a sustained rally. Ole Miss relievers Brendan Sweeney, Maddox Miller, and Maddox Webb limited further damage, allowing just three hits over the final four innings.
Ole Miss struggled offensively, leaving 11 runners on base and striking out 14 times against Bulldog pitching. The Bulldogs recorded nine hits overall, with Frei and Parker each driving in two runs. Milewski added a homer and reached base twice to help power the MSU offense, which controlled the game from start to finish, according to reports.
The series continues Sunday at 3 p.m. on SEC Network, with MSU sending Duke Stone to the mound and Ole Miss countering with Cade Townsend. Fans can follow updates via the Mississippi State athletics website and social media channels.
