No. 49 Mississippi State Falls to No. 9 Oklahoma in Women’s Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State women’s tennis was defeated by No. 9 Oklahoma on Thursday afternoon. The Sooners took an early lead by winning the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.
In singles play, the Bulldogs fought hard, but Oklahoma clinched the match with wins on courts one, five, and three. The match concluded with Oklahoma winning three of the six singles matches.
Oklahoma secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The doubles matches finished with the teams of Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz falling on court one, and Evialina Laskevich and Edda Mamedova winning on court two. The Bulldogs’ duo of Emma Cohen and Thessy Ntondele Zinga lost on court three.
In singles, Evialina Laskevich defeated Gianna Oboniye in straight sets. Thessy Ntondele Zinga and Chiara Di Genova each lost in three sets. Carolina Troiano, Mia Robinson, and Athina Pitta recorded singles wins for Mississippi State, but it was not enough to secure the match victory.
